The Hockey Alberta Foundation in partnership with the Red Deer Pond Hockey Association is proud to announce Zach Klassen as the recipient of the annual Barry Ennis Memorial Pond Hockey Scholarship. Klassen received a cheque for $1000.00 ($500.00 through the Barry Ennis Memorial Pond Hockey Award and $500.00 through a private donation from by Lloyd and Debbie Neufeld) based on a number of criteria, which includes community service, commitment and involvement in Red Deer Pond Hockey over several years, academic achievement, future education plans and financial need.
“Zach was selected not only because he met all the criteria but he is also an incredible young man, great personality, honest, sense of humour and just a real pleasure to be around,” said Barry’s brother, Brian Ennis.
This is an annual scholarship in memory of Barry Ennis that began in 2007 through private donations and yearly contributions from the Red Deer Pond Hockey League. The fund has grown considerably over the past 2 years. The scholarship selection committee consists of Barry’s wife, Kathleen, Brian Ennis and Mark Baron, chairman of Red Deer Pond Hockey.
“My twin brother was an incredible man, hard working, devoted to his family, very funny, honest, unassuming, patient, truly loved by all who knew him and this describes Zach as well. It was an easy decision to present this to Zach. The bar has been set real high for future recipients, said Brian Ennis. |
