The Alberta Junior Hockey League isn’t the only league that is showcasing its finest talent this weekend.
The Rural Alberta Midget Hockey League’s all-star game is also on the schedule and features the top players in the eight-team circuit. The AJHL’s host club, the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, has teamed up with its squad in the RAMHL to put on the event for the top 15-, 16-, and 17-year-olds league.
Team North will consist of the top players from the NEBC & Yukon Flyers, Grande Prairie Storm, Peace River Royals, and Fort McMurray Barons. Team South will boast the top two teams in the league, Calgary’s Edge School Mountaineers Maroon and the Edge School Mountaineers Gold, as well as the Northeast Panthers out of Cold Lake and the SISEC Selects, a team based out of Chestermere that features players from Switzerland, Latvia, Japan, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The North Division will feature league-leading scorer Graham Smerek of Fort McMurray, a player currently on the reserve list of the Junior ‘A’ Oil Barons, who has tallied 40 points in his first 24 games. The South will suit up the top goaltender in the RAMHL in Jared D’Amico, a 15-year-old who has a 1.70 goals-against average in 12 games. |
