Every year Hockey Alberta awards a Minor Hockey Association for their continued dedication to minor hockey through Hockey Alberta initiatives. This year Hockey Alberta is thrilled to award Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey Association (FSMHA) the Minor Hockey Association of the Year Award. “Fort Saskatchewan has been a long-standing and positive member for many years. This past year they have exemplified what it means to be members of Hockey Alberta,” said Terry Ledingham, president, Hockey Alberta. FSMHA hosted three Investors Group Hockey Alberta Provincials this past season, saving Atom AA from not having a championship. “We were already going to host the Bantam AA and Minor Midget events, but they were going to cancel the Atom AA tournament. We refused to see the kids not have a championship, so we stepped up to the plate,” said Randy Mac, FSMHA president. The Minor Hockey Association of the Year Award is awarded annually at the Hockey Alberta Annual General Meeting. The Association who receives this prestigious award must make an outstanding contribution to their community by providing young athletes with great hockey experiences. Nominations for this award can be submitted by either: a Zone Director in consultation with the Zone team, an individual person or another Minor Hockey Association. The nominations are then evaluated by a committee from the Hockey Alberta Board of Directors. “Fort Saskatchewan Minor Hockey makes such outstanding contributions to their community as well as to Hockey Alberta. They have developed a strong official’s organization by hosting referee clinics each fall as well as: coach level, safety and speak out, abuse and harassment clinics annually. We are proud to have such a great Association in our province,” said Ledingham. |
